10 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Video Production Company

Hiring a video production company is a real investment, and it’s hard to know what to ask if you haven’t done it before. These are the questions we’d want answered if we were in your seat. A good studio will be happy to answer every one of them.

1. Can I see work like what I need?

A beautiful wedding reel doesn’t prove someone can make a clear interview video for your business. Ask for examples that match your goal, industry or format. You can see ours on our work page.

2. How much will it cost, and what’s included?

Ask for a clear price and a list of what it covers: planning, filming time, editing, music, captions and revisions. If prices are hidden behind a long quote process, ask for a range up front. We publish ours on our booking page so you can see your total before you reach out.

3. How do you learn about my business?

The best videos start with your story, not the camera. Ask how the studio gets to know your customers, your message and what makes you different before filming starts.

4. Who will actually be on set?

Find out who’s filming, directing and editing, and whether you’ll talk to the same person throughout. Fewer handoffs usually means fewer things lost in translation.

5. What do you need from me?

Good studios tell you exactly how to prepare: who should be on camera, what to wear, what to have ready at the location. Ask for a prep guide or checklist.

6. How many revisions are included?

Revisions are where projects quietly go over budget. Know how many rounds are included and what an extra round costs.

7. How long until I get my video?

Ask for a realistic turnaround and whether rush delivery is available if you have a launch or event date to hit.

8. Where will this video be used?

A strong studio will ask you this. A video for Instagram, a website hero and a trade show screen each need different lengths, formats and pacing. If they don’t ask, bring it up.

9. Can one shoot give me more than one video?

Batching saves money. One well-planned session can produce a main video plus several short clips for social media. Ask what else they can make from the same footage.

10. What happens after the video is done?

Ask what files you’ll receive, whether captions and vertical versions are included, and whether they can help with ongoing content. Consistency matters more than one big video.
